Do you ever wonder if you’re truly addicted to your daily 3 PM candy bar or those fresh baked chocolate chip cookies you can never seem to resist? According to researchers at Princeton University, that is very likely the case. Researchers found that after rats binge on sugar or sugar water their brains show the same changes on catscans as those who are addicted to cocaine and heroin. In fact, the rats suffered similar withdrawl symptoms as those detoxing from illicit drugs. The Researchers at Princeton University studying bingeing and dependency in rats have found that when the animals ingest large amounts of sugar, their brains undergo changes similar to the changes in the brains of people who abuse illegal drugs like cocaine and heroin.

We miss you John. There never was and will never be another like you! If only we all had John Lennon’s attitude, the pharmaceutical industry would be struggling and therapists would be searching for clients!
To Be Happy-how simple a concept yet how utterly elusive for many who spend their lives in the quest for more “stuff!” Which in the end never brings true happiness.
When you look back on the greatest experiences and moments in your life, you ask “when was I the happiest?”
It’s time we redefine what constitutes happiness. Because all of this striving for perfection, obtaining more and more material goods, having the perfect house or car in order to keep up with the neighbors and young girls and boys starving themselves to achieve a perfect body, only makes everyone miserable! It’s never enough!
Yet, when we do good for others, we feel good and it makes us happy. So, let us, in the wise words of John Lennon, strive to be Happy!
Now go find what makes you HAPPY and watch your heart smile!
The following statements are incredibly powerful and true!!! In some instances, we may not be able to control what happens to us but we can control how we react to what happens to us. That’s why breathing, meditation and yoga are so important; not only to help clear the mind of repetitive, destructive thoughts but to help you think clearly so that you can make good decisions for yourself!
“Your thoughts are your most powerful asset! You and everything you experience in life are the direct result of your thoughts. The ability to control your thoughts will allow you to choose what experiences, people and the events you attract into your life.” - Living the Law of Attraction, The Secret
“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
I implore all of you to read Kate Orazem’s beautifully written, poignant and heartbreaking account of life through the lens of anorexia and bulimia, which is featured in the Huffington Post. There is a universal truth to what Kate wrote and I applaud her for her brutal honesty in the attempt to shine a light on an ever-increasing disease that is causing young women and more and more men to waste away, not only in girth but from society. But together we can bring them back, they just need the right help, guidance, support and understanding. Let us dedicate ourselves to celebrating the growth of women in our society not their literal wasting away and retreat!! Here is the link to the Huffington Post piece. Diet soda has been known to increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes and cause weight gain by increasing insulin resistance and sugar cravings. So try flavored seltzer instead. I like to add a bit of lime juice to lime seltzer and put it in the freezer for 20 minutes for a refreshing summer beverage!
Here’s a great article from the Huffington Post discussing the health benefits of ditching diet soda:
Diet soda may not be the guilt-free drink we’d all hoped it would be, according to mounting research. In fact, it’s exact health effects aren’t quite clear.
We talked to Dr. David Katz, the founding director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center and a HuffPost blogger, and Dr. Melina Jampolis, a board-certified physician nutrition specialist and author of “The Calendar Diet,” to explain what we know about diet soda – and why we probably shouldn’t be giving the beverage a free pass.
