The following article featured in the New York Daily News points to a new study showing that artificial sweeteners increase the body’s need for sugar leading to weight gain. If you need to add a little something sweet try all natural stevia, raw honey or real maple syrup. These are lower glycemic sweeteners so they have limited insulin response which causes inflammation and weight gain. Remember that even though it’s natural it still must be consumed in limited quantities to prevent weight gain, metabolic syndrome and diabetes!Artificial sweeteners may sabotage weight loss by upping sugar cravings

The evidence against artificial sweeteners keeps piling up: New evidence suggests ‘the brain can’t be fooled’ by faux sugar, leading dieters to overindulge in calorie-heavy foods later on.

An important read from the National Academy of Hypothyroidism regarding how Vitamin D deficiency can lead to developing Hashimotos Thyroiditis. http://nahypothyroidism.org/vitamin-d-deficiency-linked-to-hashimotos-thyroiditis/

Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to Hashimoto’s ThyroiditisPosted on

April 28, 2013 by Kent Holtorf M.D.

Recent research on the relationship between vitamin-D deficiency and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis might give you good reason to spend more time in the sun.  Vitamin D plays an important role in regulating our immune system. Research has established a direct association between vitamin D deficiency and autoimmune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis and Type 1 Diabetes. Now, researchers in Turkey have compelling evidence that a deficiency in vitamin D might lead to the development of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the United States.

Does low vitamin D trigger Hashimoto’s thyroiditis?

In a cross-sectional study of 540 people, researche...

Eating Gluten-Free is not just a fad, it’s necessary for anyone with an autoimmune disease like Hashimotos Thyroiditis, Celiac Disease or a gluten sensitivity, PCOS and those who suffer from migraines. However, you can’t just eat gluten-free and expect miracles to happen, it simply won’t work. You need to eat both low glycemic and gluten-free because eating gluten-free cakes and pastas are not going to make you healthier. You need a lower carb, low glycemic meal plan that is gluten-free to lower your inflammation, insulin levels and antithyroid antibodies in order to see results. That’s why as a Certified Health Coach all of my detoxes and plans are low glycemic and gluten-free. I also offer a popular Whole Foods grocery tour with an accompanying grocery list of hundreds of antibiotic free, no growth hormone, low mercury, low glycemic and gluten-free foods to teach you how to shop for life. After flipping through the latest best selling diet books last night at Barnes & Noble, I have to say I don’t know how most people follow these! I’d be starving! That’s why for my 7 Day Sugar & Carb Detox, I give people 5-6 meals per day of antibiotic free protein, low glycemic veggies and fruit and healthy fats so that they’re never hungry, stop their sugar and carb cravings and reset their metabolism. After the Detox, I then add in low glycemic, gluten-free foods slowly and see how people react. Everyone is different and I target my programs to each person’s needs and body’s response.

I will tell you, that if you starve yourself, you’ll only stress out your adrenal glands and disrupt your thyroid. Not to mention your insulin levels will plummet and you’ll be ravenous and dead set on eating half a pizza or a huge slice of chocolate cake the first chance you get!

My plan is a lifestyle not a quick fix! I teach people how to eat healthy for life (that’s why my grocery store tours are...

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is always one of my favorite days of the year not only because it commemorates and honors one of the greatest men to have ever graced the earth; but because every year on this day, I re-read Dr. King’s iconic and incendiary “Letter From A Birmingham Jail.” Which fills me with a renewed sense of purpose and meaning and will hopefully do the same for you.

In my opinion, “Letter From A Birmingham Jail” ranks up there with the Gettysburg Address, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence as one of the most brilliant and meaningful documents ever written. It is a call to action for people to dig deep within themselves and have the courage to stand up for justice and do what is right, in order to make their lives matter and mean something!

As Viktor Frankel wrote in his best selling book, Man’s Search for Meaning, “Everyone has his (her) own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Therein h...
